Fabric is the single biggest quality decision in a scrubs order — it drives hand-feel, durability, colour retention, price and how the garment survives US laundering. GoMedWear runs every major scrub blend on its own floor in Sialkot; this guide explains the honest trade-offs between them.

The four blends that matter

Poly-Rayon-Spandex (typically 72/21/7)

The premium fashion-scrub fabric — the blend behind most leading US DTC scrub brands. Rayon gives the soft drape, polyester the durability, spandex the 4-way stretch. Best for brands competing on comfort and fit. Trade-off: rayon content means slightly more care in industrial laundering than pure synthetics.

Polyester-Spandex (typically 94/6)

The athletic workhorse: quick-dry, wrinkle-resistant, colour-fast, holds up to aggressive wash cycles. Best for uniform programmes, high-turnover facilities, and athletic-fit lines. Trade-off: less breathable and a crisper hand than rayon blends.

Cotton-Polyester (typically 65/35 or 50/50)

The institutional standard for decades. Durable, economical, breathable, and it survives commercial laundering better than almost anything. Best for hospital contracts and budget-sensitive bulk programmes. Trade-off: more wrinkling and less stretch unless spandex is added.

100% Cotton and Bamboo

Cotton for sensitive-skin programmes and traditional preferences; bamboo for eco-positioned brands wanting natural softness and moisture-wicking with a sustainability story. Both trade some durability and colour-fastness against synthetics — a fair trade when the positioning demands it.

GSM: the number most buyers ignore

GSM (grams per square metre) is fabric weight. Scrub fabrics typically run 150–240 GSM. Lighter (~150–180) feels breathable and drapes well but shows wear sooner; heavier (~200–240) feels substantial and lasts longer but runs warmer. GoMedWear publishes the weight of every style on its spec page and GSM-checks fabric on arrival, because a supplier quietly dropping 20 GSM between orders is the oldest margin trick in the industry.

Choosing for the US market

A useful shortcut: selling to facilities → cotton-poly or polyester-spandex; building a brand → poly-rayon-spandex; positioning on sustainability → bamboo or cotton. Free size-set samples ship before any bulk run, so the fabric decision is always made with the garment in hand, not from a description.

Buyer questions, answered

What is the best fabric for medical scrubs?

It depends on the programme: poly-rayon-spandex for premium fashion-scrub brands, polyester-spandex for athletic-fit and quick-dry lines, cotton-polyester for institutional durability, and cotton or bamboo for natural-fibre positioning.

What GSM should wholesale scrubs be?

Most scrub fabrics run 150–240 GSM. Lighter weights breathe better; heavier weights last longer. GoMedWear publishes the exact weight on every style page and GSM-checks fabric on arrival.

Can I get fabric samples before ordering?

Yes. GoMedWear ships free size-set samples before any bulk production run, so fabric, fit and colour are approved in hand first.
